IGF::OT::IGF OTHER FUNCTIONS NASA WILL PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP OF THE IGEM COMPETITION AT THE PARTNER LEVEL. THE "INTERNATIONAL GENETICALLY ENGINEERED MACHINE" COMPETITION IS THE PREMIER UNDERGRADUATE SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY COMPETITION. DURING IGEM UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS PERFORM RESEARCH IN SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY. THE NASA SPONSORSHIP WILL ALLOW IGEM TO SUPPORT STUDENT RESEARCH IN THE AREAS OF HUMANS IN SPACE, IMPROVING BIOLOGICAL MONITORING AND PROCESSING, AS WELL AS FACILITATING ASTROBIOLOGY AND OTHER SPACE-RELATED BIOLOGY RESEARCH EFFORTS. THIS IS PART OF NASA'S STRATEGY TO INCREASE THE AVAILABILITY OF SKILLED SYNTHETIC BIOLOGISTS TO WORK ON NASA'S RESEARCH NEEDS. - $20,000 - Sunday the 27th of January 2013
