IGF::OT::IGF OTHER FUNCTIONS. ANALYZE AND INTERPRET THE PLASMA SCIENCE. FOR WORK ON ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA FROM THE CASSINI PLASMA SPECTROMETER (CAPS). AS A TEAM MEMBEROF THE CASSINI PLASMA SPECTROMETER (CAPS), RICHARD E. HARTLE PERFORMS THIS TASK THAT IS LEAD BY CPAS CO-I, EDWARD C. SITTLER, JR. THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS TASK IS TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET CAPS DATA. THIS WORK STARTED WITH THE VOYAGER 1 MISSION AT SATURN, WHERE HARTLE AND COLLEAGUES ANALYZED AND INTERPRETED THE PLASMA SCIENCE (PLS) INSTRUMENT DATA AT TITAN [HARTLE ET A., 1982]. IT CONTINUED WHEN THE CASSINI PLASMA SPECTROMETER (CAPS) DATA AT SATURN BECAME AVAILABLE, WHICH IS REFLECTED IN SOME THE THE PUBLICATIONS IN HARLTE S CV. THE PRESENT TASK CONTINUES HIS WORK OF ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF CAPS DATA. USUALLY DATA ANALYSIS IS DONE FIRST WITH IDEAS FORMED DURING THE INTERPRETATION PHASE AND THEN BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN PHASES UNTIL THE FINAL ANALYSIS IS FINISHED. VERY OFTEN DURING THE ANALYSIS PHASE MECHANISMS AND PROCESSES ARE IDENTIFIED THAT ARE BASED ON THEORIES AND MODELS. THE LATTER ARE DEVELOPED AS PART THE TASK. AT THE PRESENT TIME HARTLE IS WORKING ON ATMOSPHERIC ESCAPE AT TITAN DUE TO HORIZONTAL THERMOSPHERIC WINDS AT ITS EXOBASE. THE FIRST STAGE OF THIS WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND A MANUSCRIPT IS BEING PREPARED FOR PUBLICATION. THIS WORK WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE PAPER IS ACCEPTED. DURING THE LATTER WORK, A GENERAL EXOSPHERE MODE WAS STARTED THAT INCLUDES DENSITY, TEMPERATURE AND WINDS (INCLUDING ROTATION) AT THE EXOBASE AND AROUND THE GLOBE (WITH THE HELP OF DAVID SIMPSON). ONLY THE EFFECT OF HORIZONTAL WINDS AT TITAN HAS BEEN CONSIDERED AT THIS POINT. THE OTHER EXOBASE VARIABLES WILL BE EXAMINED AND ACCOUNTED FOR IN A FUTURE MODEL. ONCE A NEUTRAL EXOSPHERE MODEL IS DETERMINED, THEN ANION EXOSPHERE MODEL, PREVIOUSLY DEVELOPED, WILL BE APPLIED TO DETERMINE HOW THE NEUTRAL EXOSPHERE AFFECTS THE PICKUP IONS.
