FREDERICKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL S AEROSCIENCE PROGRAM (FHSAP) HAS BEEN CHALLENGED BY TWO FACTORS WHICH LIMIT ITS POTENTIAL FOR REPLICATION AND DISSEMINATION AS A STATE, PRE-ENGINEERING PROGRAM; NOZZLE AND FUEL GRAIN FABRICATION. DURING THE 2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR, STUDENTS IN THE AEROSCIENCE PROGRAM USED DATA FROM THE PREVIOUS YEARS RESEARCH TO SUCCESSFULLY FABRICATE A 45-POUND, SEVEN-PORT, HTPB FUEL GRAIN FOR USE IN THE 2008 REDBIRD11. THE REDBIRD11 WAS SUCCESSFULLY TESTED IN MAY OF 2008, PRODUCING 2,000-LBF OF THRUST USING THE HTPB FUEL GRAIN DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED BY THE STUDENTS TO LOFT A STANFORD PAYLOAD RESEARCH. RESEARCH AND TESTING ARE STILL UNDERWAY CONCERNING NOZZLE ISSUES TO COMPLETE THE ORIGINAL PROPOSED RESEARCH FROM 2004 TO CONTINUE REPLICATION OF THE PROGRAM NATIONWIDE IN THE FUTURE.
