PERFORM LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS TO DEMONSTRATE LUMINESCENCE-BASED TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS TO 1200C WITH ADEQUATE SIGNAL-TO-NOISE USING SELECTED COMPACT LED OR LASER DIODE EXCITATION OF NASA-PROVIDED 1 DIAM CR-DOPED GDALO3 COATED BUTTON SPECIMENS BY 2/13. 3. DEVELOP AND DEMONSTRATE INTEGRATION OF SELECTED LED OR LASER DIODE EXCITATION SOURCE WITH PROBE DESIGNED FOR ENGINE INSERTION PROVIDED BY GRMT TEAM. 4. VALIDATE PRACTICAL FEASIBILITY OF UTILIZING COMPACT LED OR LASER DIODE EXCITATION FOR LUMINESCENCEBASED TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS BY DEMONSTRASTING MEASUREMENTS WITHOUT PROBE INTEGRATION AT NASA HIGH HEAT FLUX LASER FACILITY BY 2/13 AND WITH PROBE INTEGRATION IN NASA BURNER RIG FACILITY BY 6/13. 5. MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS BY 6/13 TO GRMT PROJECT TEAM ON ACCEPTABILITY OF ACCURACY DECREASE USING COMPACT EXCITATION SOURCE COMPARED TO STANDARD LASER EXCITATION SOURCE BASED ON ERROR ANALYSIS DETERMINATION OF UNCERTAINTIES IN TEMPERATURE DERIVED FROM DECAY TIME MEASUREMENTS. 6. COLLABORATE WITH NASA AND THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE GRMT PROJECT ON WRITING AND PRESENTING PAPERS AT APPROPRIATE CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS.
