    "SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, TESTING, AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE FOR LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS" STATEMENT OF WORK TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, TESTING, AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE FOR LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS 1.0 ABSTRACT THE AIR REVITALIZATION SYSTEMS (ARS) PROGRAM HAS BEEN A SERIES OF PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, TESTING, AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE FOR LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS. THE LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM TEAM PLANS TO DEVELOP AN ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL. FOR EXAMPLE, ONE GOAL IS TO REPORT WHETHER VACUUM SWING ABSORPTION IS A VIABLE TECHNOLOGY FOR LOW EARTH ORBIT AS WELL AS POSSIBLE APPLICATION FOR OTHER MISSIONS. THE DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, TESTING, AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE OF THESE PROTOTYPES WILL BUILD UPON PREVIOUS WORK DONE TO DATE AS WELL AS TEST RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION. 2.0 STATEMENT OF WORK THIS STATEMENT OF WORK IS INTENDED TO DEFINE THE WORK NECESSARY TO PROVIDE THE DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, TESTING, AND SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AS REQUIRED FOR LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO SORBENT BASED ATMOSPHERE REVITALIZATION (SBAR) SYSTEM, CARBON DIOXIDE REDUCTION ASSEMBLIES (CDRA), AND INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (ISS) SUSTAINING ENGINEERING. WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED AT THE MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER'S (MSFC). OTHER PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT INCLUDES TESTING HARDWARE NECESSARY FOR CLOSED-LOOP AIR REVITALIZATION ARCHITECTURE. CARBON DIOXIDE REDUCTION (CDRE) SYSTEMS AND SUBSEQUENT POST-PROCESSORS ARE OF KEY IMPORTANCE AS WELL. FOR EXAMPLE, TWO CDRE SYSTEMS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT INCLUDE THE SABATIER CDRE SYSTEM PLUS A METHANE PYROLYSIS POST-PROCESSOR AND A BOSCH CDRE SYSTEM. 2.1 TASK PLAN THE FOLLOWING TASKS BELOW ARE AIM TOWARD FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS AT MSFC. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM THE FOLLOWING TASK: TASK 1: RESEARCH AS REQUIRED FOR: MATERIALS, MECHANISMS, AND PROCESSES. APPROACHES FOR IMPROVED INTEGRATION OF THE ARS COMPONENTS. POTENTIAL MODIFICATIONS TO THE EXISTING REAL-TIME MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL SYSTEMS. ADVANCED INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL DEVICES AND TECHNIQUES. TASK 2: DESIGN AS REQUIRED FOR: MODIFICATIONS TO THE ARS TEST ARTICLES, SUBSYSTEMS, AND COMPONENTS. NEW AND MODIFIED TEST FACILITIES. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR INTEGRATING ARS SUBSYSTEMS. ALGORITHMS THAT ENHANCE THE CURRENT REAL-TIME INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS. NEW AND MODIFICATIONS TO CURRENT ELECTRICAL INTERFACE CIRCUITS. TASK 3: DEVELOPMENT AS REQUIRED FOR: FABRICATION AND ASSEMBLY OF MODIFICATIONS TO THE ARS. MECHATRONIC SYSTEM FUNCTIONS USING THE LABVIEW PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE AS WELL AS THE LANGUAGES NATIVE TO THE VALVE ACTUATOR EMBEDDED CONTROLLERS, INTELLIGENT INSTRUMENTATION, AND THE ARS SUBSYSTEMS SUCH AS PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER (PLC) LADDER LOGIC WHILE UTILIZING BUS ARCHITECTURES TO INCLUDE ETHERNET, RS-485, RS-232, AND USB. SOFTWARE ALGORITHMS IN THE LABORATORY VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING WORKBENCH (LABVIEW) PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE. TEST FACILITIES. VERIFICATION OF ARS TEST ARTICLES, SUBSYSTEMS, AND COMPONENTS. TASK 4: TESTING AS REQUIRED FOR: ARS TECHNOLOGIES AND COMPONENTS. REAL-TIME WORKSPACE FILES FOR INTEGRATION WITH PAYLOAD AND COMPONENTS REAL-TIME AUTOMATED TEST SYSTEM (PACRATS). TEST STANDS NECESSARY FOR CARBON DIOXIDE REDUCTION ASSEMBLIES TO INCLUDE INSTRUMENTATION, ELECTRICAL AND CONTROL SYSTEMS, SUB-SYSTEM DESIGNS FOR FABRICATION, AND ANY MODIFICATIONS TO EXISTING TECHNOLOGY NECESSARY FOR TESTING.
